Weekend in Wimberley, TX Recommendations

To start off this post about my Mom and my weekend away in Wimberley, TX (December 2020), I'd like to note that social distancing and masks were enforced everywhere we went. The city seems to be handling all of this well which made me feel much more comfortable.

In December 2020, my mom and I took a road trip down from Dallas to Wimberley, TX for her birthday. We decided to take a route through Fort Worth and down through Hill Country (instead of through Austin), which added about 30-40 minutes to our trip, bringing us to a total of about 4 hours and 45 minutes.

In this post I'm going to walk you through the food we ate and activities we did.

Food

The Leaning Pear

Our first meal (Friday, dinner) was at The Leaning Pear which has beautifully high ceilings and a great outdoor setup.

Drinks: Twisted X Austin Lager and Arrowood Vineyards Cab Sav

Appetizer: a "pretzel board" - baked pretzels with beer pimento cheese and a very horseradish-y mustard

Dinner: the Uncle Art pizza (artichoke, spinach, roasted garlic cream,
parsley, prosciutto americano) and meatloaf with masked potatoes

I got a sausage, jalapeño, and cheese croissant, and my mom got a Plain Jane cinnamon roll.

Ino'z Chew & Brew

Drinks: Twisted X- McConau-Haze IPA, High Sign- El Berto Mexican Lager

Lunch: the potato skins and chicken fried chicken.

Neither were greasy so we were pleased! We sat on the patio out back and the views over the creek were so beautiful.

Trattoria Lisina

This restaurant is on-site of a vineyard and looks just like a home in the middle of France. Trattoria Lisina was the fanciest restaurant we went to - and the service matched - but it wasn't stuffy or too fancy, if you know what I mean.

Drinks: red wine, whiskey sour

Dinner: fettuccine con prosciutto e fungi (prosciutto, peas, mushrooms, creamy sauce), taglierini alla portofino (scallops, shrimp, lemon butter sauce)

Mima's

We tried the bacon, egg, and cheese, the chorizo, egg, and cheese, and the potato, egg, and cheese breakfast tacos.

Were they good breakfast tacos? For sure. Were they the best breakfast tacos I'd ever had? Nah. Bacon was the best, though!

Coffee & Treats

Blanco Brew

The Gingerbread Latte with almond milk. Based on my coffee choices below I should have gotten a lavender latte here, too, but I had to go with a seasonal choice.

Cyprus Creek Coffee House

A Lavender Latte with almond milk- this was hands-on the most expensive latte I've ever ordered. It was also one of the best. Take that how you will.

This coffee shop is so aesthetically pleasing, too!

Sip! by the Square

A Lavender Latte with almond milk - the lavender was fairly understated, but the latte overall was great.

Activity

Glass Blowing at Wimberley Glassworks

This was one of our favorite activities we did all weekend! At the Wimberley Glassworks store, which is just a few minutes outside of the main square, you can watch the employees actually blow glass! We spent about 30 minutes sitting in their (socially distanced) risers and watched them produce part of a large project for a new client. The founder narrates the steps and you can ask questions along the way.

Beer Flights at Roughhouse Brewing

At Roughhouse Brewing, they have nine beers on tap which is perfect for two flights of four. Per the recommendation of the employee serving us, we omitted the lightest beer because it was the beer that was most similar to things you could pick up at the store; she wasn't wrong! Every single beer was unique - from each other and other beers I've had before - so the experience was a good one. We also enjoyed the live music out back.

Nature

Blue Hole Regional Park

My mom and I loved this spot! We came Saturday morning and it was a bit too cold and windy for us so we didn't stay long, but we came back Sunday morning to enjoy the sunshine between breakfast and the opening of stores downtown.

My mom sat down by the water the entire time reading, but I did a bit of walking around the trails.

Jacob's Well

It wasn't the right time of year to get in the water here so I didn't spend much time at Jacob's Well, but it is a very beautiful area. Surrounding the Well is a natural area with additional hiking trails, recreation equipment for children, and beautiful trees.

It's important to note that while this spot isn't more than half a mile from your car (based on my mental math), there are steep stairs and the rocks are fairly slippery.

Shopping

I'm not going to list all of the stores we visited, but I'll just say that we hit 99% of the stores in and around the square.

Our AirBnb

Beer Ranch Project Studio #2 - here's the link directly to the room we stayed in.

This place was great - it was right on the square (and is the future location of a tap-room for the brewery, hence the name) and was the perfect size for my mom and me. The building has the future tap-room and two studio apartments so you could book both rooms if you had multiple guests.

I will note that neither are completely flat, with Studio 2 having less steps, so please keep that in mind depending on your accessibility needs.
