Babas (on Meeting or Cannon, both Downtown)
Can't go wrong with either location, but the Peanut Milk Mocha is a must. Friday and Saturday evenings they also host aperitivo hour with free appetizers with drink purchase.
-
Prophet Coffee (Park Circle)
Alternative milk is standard and so is their unique design.
This couple started their business in a really cute (and small) coffee truck which you’ll see around sometimes, but they also just recently expanded their shop for some indoor seating.

Here’s a general tip I’ll throw in for free for the locals - Blackbird XYZ (a restaurant rewards app all over Charleston) has a “Breakfast Club” with free coffee at select locations for $25/month.
-
Mudhouse (Downtown)
This is a local chain from Virginia right off Marion Square so it is perfect if you’re crossing Calhoun (which is often the “halfway point” while walking King Street.
I love how light their flavors are - it’s perfect if you aren’t into a super sweet drinks.
-
Kudu Coffee (Downtown)
If you’re looking for a great place to focus and study outside, this is a great courtyard to enjoy. It’s generally known as a place where the college students are because of the proximity to campus.
-
Sightsee Shop (Downtown)
This location has great little shops right next door (including Wake Refill, mentioned on the shopping tab) but also sells really cute items inside.
Something that shouldn't be so important to me is how cute their glassware is.
-
The Harbinger (Downtown)
They’re a coffee shop with delicious baked goods, with my favorites being their Saturday bagel and cream cheese selection.
Similar to Sightsee Shop (and the exact same as Harken, as they’re commonly owned), the mugs here are great. I even asked them for which company they use - Eastfork Pottery out of Asheville - and I actually known own some plates and mugs from there.
